The Giants offered tendered Safety James Butler. If Butler signs the tender he’ll make $1.47 million next season. If Butler signs with another team the Giants will be awarded the team’s second round pick as compensation.
Jared Lorenzen was also tendered. Lorenzen’s tender is $927,000. The Giants will not receive compensation if Lorenzen signs with another team, since he was undrafted.
Defensive tackle Adrian Awasom was not offered a tender and he is now an unrestricted free agent.
These moves were expected. The Giants need to bring back Butler for depth at safety, especially since we don’t know if we’ll be able to get Gibril Wilson back.
Jared Lorenzen already knows the playbook and the Giants offensive system, so it makes sense to tender him
Awasom isn’t really needed on the team. The defensive line is already strong enough. Plus, Awasom hurt his case to come back next year after he was arrested for a DUI the week of the Super Bowl.
